How to send emails to a label -
Step 1: Open the Filter Menu
- Go to Gmail on your computer.
- Look at the main Search bar at the very top of the screen.
- On the right side of that search bar, click the "Show search options" icon (it looks like three horizontal lines with little adjustment sliders).
Step 2: Set Your Email Criteria
- A dropdown menu will appear. In the "From" field, type the email address of the specific person or company you want to label or add info in one of the other fields (eg the subject line).
- (Optional) If you only want certain emails from them to be labeled, you can also fill in the "Subject" or "Has the words" fields.
- Click the "Create filter" button at the bottom of that dropdown window.
Step 3: Choose Your Actions (The Rules)
Now you will see a list of checkboxes. This is where you tell Gmail what to do with the email when it arrives. Check the following boxes:
- "Apply the label:" Check this box, click the "Choose label" dropdown next to it, and select your specific label (or create a new one right there).
- "Never send it to Spam:" I highly recommend checking this so the email is never accidentally hidden by Google's spam blockers.
- "Always mark it as important:" Check this box to add the yellow priority marker to the email, giving it extra visibility in your inbox.
Step 4: Save and Activate
- If you want this rule to apply to emails from this person that are already sitting in your inbox, check the box at the very bottom that says "Also apply filter to matching conversations."
- Finally, click the blue "Create filter" button.
